![]() | Bach, Stravinsky, and beer in Minneapolis Ed- I'm posting here because we briefly spoke of concerts like this in a thread a long, long time ago. Last fall, after sitting on a hard wooden pew for a marathon performance of all six Brandenburg Concerti by the St. Paul Chamber Orch, I decided to put together a group to play in a more "relaxed" setting. Thus the Dalton Street Chamber Players were born. Our first show is this Sunday at a bar in Minneapolis. We'll be doing the Second Brandenburg Concerto, as well as other smaller works. The show will open with Stravinsky's Fanfare for a New Theater. Needless to say, I'm excited. With any luck, we will have youtube videos up in the following weeks. -Jimi If anybody is in the Twin Cities area, we'd love to see you there. Here are the details: The Dalton Street Chamber Players @the Nomad World Pub Sunday, April 20, 8PM 501 Cedar Ave S Minneapolis, MN 55454 21+/$2 cover |

I too had a really relaxed concert not too long ago. Both Telemann concertos (the one with the slow first movement and the one with 2 oboes) and a Telemann cantata for the high F trumpet. Really relaxed, yeah, right............. Jimi, good for you! I wish you the best! Sorry I can't be there. Robin | |

![]() | Re: Bach, Stravinsky, and beer in Minneapolis Jimi, Fabulous. Put the Brandenburg last to take full advantage of your "relaxed" audience. Seriously, I love listen to good music with a drink in my hand and, hopefully, your group will find a niche. Robin, I made a 40ish minute suite of Telemann pieces once that included most of the Concerto for trumpet, the Concerto for trumpet, 2 oboes & strings, the (even better) Concerto for trumpet, 2 oboes & continuo (violins playing the oboe parts), the Concerto for 3 trumpets, timp, 2 oboes & strings, and the Suite in D. It wasn't that big of a deal to play -- you get into the flow after a bit (but the odd movements without trumpet were a welcomed respite from D Major!) Does anyone remember the old New Yorker cartoon of three concert banners hanging outside Lincoln Center proclaiming "MOSTLY MOZART", "BASICALLY BACH" and "ALL THE TELEMANN YOU CAN STAND"? Bartender, a round of applause for Jimi, EC Last edited by ecarroll : 04-19-2008 at 08:11 AM. |

![]() | Re: Bach, Stravinsky, and beer in Minneapolis All, thanks for the words of encouragement. We just finalized the "setlist"- Stravinsky-Fanfare for a New Theatre⇒Bach-Cello Suite No 2 (Prelude) Hovhaness-Suite for Oboe and Bassoon Shostakovich-Three Violin Duets Summer-Julio (cello duet arrangement) Intermission Stravinsky-Fanfare for a New Theatre Messiaen-Abyss of the Birds Poulenc-Sonata for Brass Trio Bach-Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 We were originally going to have a Piazzola tango, but that fell through and was replaced by the Poulenc (I'm not playing on it though). Looks like a pretty good program. Pictures and videos to come soon. -Jimi |

| Re: Bach, Stravinsky, and beer in Minneapolis Jimi, Sounds like a great opportunity to get the message out on You-tube. If you do, I promise I'll watch it, obligatory glass of Aussie Shiraz positioned in right hand. Regards, Trevor |

| Re: Bach, Stravinsky, and beer in Minneapolis If you miss(ed) the As, you'd have beer bottles raining down ala Blues Brothers! Or, who knows, maybe one of the local gunslingers (Mr. Laureano? Mr. Bordner?) would challenge you to a Steve Vai-style cutting contest Speaking of drinks in hand, it was good to meet Jimi last year after a concert in Iowa! |
