![]() | Brandenburg 2 quintet? He Ed, Do you know anything about this? I'm assuming it isn't Bach's reduction, but it would be nice to not have to round up a bunch of string players to play this piece. -Jimi |

![]() | Re: Brandenburg 2 quintet? Jimi, It's certainly an arrangement and the violinist, oboist, and recorder player must really be working overtime. Barenreiter is a reputable house, however. Maybe you sould give it a go and report back to us? Please keep in mind that you can do the Second Brandenburg with minimal forces, not much larger than the 6 needed above: solo group (4) plus one-on-a-part strings (5) and harpsichord. I must have played it 200 times with the New Youk Chamber Soloists in that configuration. You plus 9 of your friends. . .everyone fits into two cars (well, maybe not the harpsichord but harpsichordists are a drag to ride with anyhow). ![]() | Re: Brandenburg 2 quintet? Klaus Hofman also has edited music for Carus and Hanssler. Barenreiter publishes a lot of good music for Posaunenchor, so don't be suprised if its been transposed down. Let us know how it goes! |

![]() | Re: Brandenburg 2 quintet? Thanks guys. I found it while searching for a full set of Barenreiter parts (anyone know where I could order those?). The first time I played the Brandenburg it really was just me and nine of my closest friends. I got to do it again earlier this fall with with a larger contingent of strings, but I like the smaller group. I'm looking forward to seeing this quintet arrangement. I'll let you know how it looks (and maybe even post a video) when I get it. I'm trying to organize an extremely casual chamber music at a very cool pub in Minneapolis sometime in late winter or early spring, so this might be perfect! -Jimi Last edited by Jimi Michiel : 12-20-2007 at 01:02 PM. |

![]() | Re: Brandenburg 2 quintet? Ok, I just ordered it. It's on backorder, which means I'm going to forget about it and then get a nice surprise sometime in January. |

Now you're talking. I love musicians who A) don't wait for the phone to ring and B) bring the music to the people. I also like to A) listen to music with a drink in my hand and B) order another. Some of my McGill students have done the same featuring new music with great success. A full set of parts can probably be found via inter-library loan. Perhaps David Baldwin can help you with this? Cheers, EC | |

![]() | Re: Brandenburg 2 quintet? Thanks guys. This is my first year out of school. I've pieced together a modest income from teaching and other random jobs, but I've had to scrape and claw for playing opportunities. The idea for this one came about halfway through a performance of the complete Brandenburg Concerti by the SPCO. I was sitting in a church pew wishing I had a beer in my hand and the idea came to me Ed- There are a couple of places that I could borrow the parts from, but I enjoy playing this piece enough that I think I'd just like to have my own set. That way I wouldn't have to worry about due dates and/or explaining the beer stains... -Jimi PS. A friend just sent me a message telling me to call up Educational Music Services, so I should be able to get a nice set of parts from them. |
