![]() ![]() | Copyright issues... Hi Ed, I've always thought Ligeti's Continuum would sound cool for wind dec-tet (10 players, did I get that right?). I think I could find enough players, but I'm wondering what the legality would be of arranging and then performing an arrangement of a keyboard work. He did it himself with a number of his piano etudes, but obviously this is a little different... Any advice you could provide would be great. Thanks, Jimi

Jimi, I am sending along some information from the National Association for Music Education which, to me, reads that one needs to get permission to arrange (especially if you want to do this in a academic setting). http://www.menc.org/information/copyright/copyr.html http://www.menc.org/information/copy...ap_d_form.html http://www.menc.org/information/copy...p_d_print.html Why not ask your librarian at UMinn? Happy hunting, EC |

| Pianissimo User | Re: Copyright issues... Jimi, We talked about that in Baldwin's transcription class. Basically, if the work is copyrighted, you have to get permission from the copyright holder to do anything with it. For example, Ray Vasquez (were you around when he was at the U?) got Gregson's permission to do a brass choir arrangement of his trumpet concerto (and the result was pretty cool). Now, older stuff that is in the public domain (like early music for example) is fair game for anyone to take up and arrange to your hearts content without getting permission first. Good luck. |
