since you mentioned a cold in another thread...
how do you cope with playing when you have those miseries??
sometimes i can do it, but sometimes i just feel too gross.

take benadryl and sleep through your pines solo, then let everyone brag on how soft you played??

wilmer & manny, i'd appreciate your ideas, too.

dj,

I was trained in a New York freelance environment. If you didn't play, you didn't get paid . . . so you toughed it out. No problems there.

Conversely, I remember playing the Berg Chamber Concerto once in Holland (on TV as well) with a screaming bronchial infection and catching a load from my colleagues who (correctly) pointed out that the Rotterdam, like most European orchestras, had 2 first trumpets and that I didn't belong onstage.

The moral of this little story is to either find employment in a section of five or know a good pharmacist.

Easy, I just don't get sick. When I do I'm so flat on my butt that playing isn't even a consideration.
