I didn't want to post a new topic to ask this question since it really isn't trumpet-related...

Fire Dusty? Fire Jim Hendry? Trade off/sell off Wood and/or Prior? I heard rumors about Joe Girardi coming back to Chicago to manage, but hey, sports talkradio isn't exactly the most accurate game in town.

Sure, Dusty overworks pitchers and all that, but maybe managers are fall guys too often. Sigh.

The guy in the dugout is just middle management. Dusty will certainly take the fall for the past two seasons of awful baseball and I doubt that John McGraw could have done things much differently.

I love Joe Girardi (a true Cub and smart man) but wonder if the Tribune suits feel the same?

Wood will be back, but probably not in the rotation. There's no sense trading Prior now...you wouldn't get much more than an old jockstrap for him at the moment. Maybe he will come around. Maybe there is a curse. Do dogs dream?

At least the Iowa Cubs played meaningful games late in the PCL season. :)

Best,
EC

I joined TM on a whim and am now immensely glad I did. I am currently applying to Dartmouth and have read about you on their website. I am also glad to have read through your musical influences--it is, thankfully, the same school of thought from which my current private lesson teacher draws. As a potential sociology/economics/maybe-something-else major, I am hoping Dartmouth's music scene is as open to non-majors as I have heard it is.

C of V,

Welcome to TM!

Music at Dartmouth is designed for non majors (there are only a few) and it's a sensational college, as you're well aware. Let me know if you'll be visiting? I'd love to get together, hear you play, and swap a Venetian story or two :)

Cheers,
EC

Thank you for your cordiality. I visited this past July and can remember it like yesterday. Dartmouth is definitely impressive.

I am sending in a five-minute CD of me playing some Arutunian and Haydn, so it should arrive at Dartmouth shortly.

I may visit the campus again, in which case I would love to meet, although the closest I've been to Venice is London. :)

Re: EC Downloading

Ed, do you mind my asking if you are any relation to the late Edgar Carroll, right hand hurler for the 1929 Boston Red Sox? This is off the subject, but since the monster has already been let in, I thought I'd ask. What do you think of those terribly funnel shaped mouthpieces (almost like an f horn) on the OLD double leadpipe Besson cornets. I have one that my Dad and I found and rebuilt when I was in school in 1971. Great sound! Thin bell crook! It took a while to build up to where I could have some endurance with it.

I have it on good authority (my Husky, Clyde) that they do. Of course he has been known to stretch the truth. I never have trusted Siberians.
