Re: EC Downloading

BB,

Carroll is a very common name in Ireland. Your BoSox hurler and I are not related. Nor am I related to Clay Carroll (Reds pitcher during the 70s) or Jamie Carroll (current Indians outfielder).

Re V shaped mouthpieces, they are vital not only to producing and authentic cornet sound, but also for allowing the "between the notes" dexterity needed in playing virtuoso 19th century repertoire. Keep going with it.

Best,
EC

In my school days I tried the old Besson on baroque pieces. I quickly discovered it wasn't the one I needed for that, but I loved the warmth and fullness I could obtain.
I thought of Edgar Carroll's name because there were a few promising men who didn't keep a ballclub career due to the times. Times are tough now, but dreams aren't dashed as they were then.
Thank you for joining us. Though I am "retired" from the business, I can't quit my love for the music or instruments. What is your most used instrument today?

Richard Gordon will become famous soon enough
Re: EC Downloading

Hi Ed; I' m Rich Gordon. I'm a NYC music teacher and play trumpet in several different styles. I'm retiring from teaching this year and will be able to devote more time to playing. However, I will miss my children dearly. Trumpet and teaching kids are my life. As far as fixing things around the house and such, it sounds like we have alot in common. It's good to be able to be a part of your column. Sincerely, Rich Gordon.
