| Einojuhani Rautavaara Ed et al, I was wondering if anyone ever ran across any of his compositions. Specifically, his "A Requiem in our time" for brass ensemble and either of his trumpet pieces. But feel free to mention any of his other pieces worth a listen. CG |

![]() | Re: Einojuhani Rautavaara Charlie, Rautavaara is a serious composer, well worth checking out. "A Requiem in our time" has been around for ages -- a Google search will reveal the date -- and I recall some cool glissandi in the trombone parts as well as calls and echoes by the trumpets (I once programmed the echoes from offstage if memory serves me) (which it often doesn't). Best, EC |

| Re: Einojuhani Rautavaara Tarantara (from 1976) is quite fun to play - enough room for interpretation, particularly rhythmically and theatrically. Range isn't too difficult - low G to Eb above the staff, with an optional F# above that (end of a gliss). Worth looking at as a shorter (4-6 min) recital piece, IMHO. | Re: Einojuhani Rautavaara He's a very interesting composer. I first heard his violin concerto on the radio, then checked out some of his other works. His symphonies are well worth a listen, as well as Cantus Arcticus, as Wilmer mentioned. Rautavaara has a beautiful sense of sound and color, with the sweep of a modern Sibelius, not nearly as austere as Part. I really enjoy his music. |
