Focus and Flow

Hi Ed,

Thanks for all your great advice on this site. I enjoy your forum very much.

I didn't want to hijack the Bai Lin thread, but I wanted to ask you to clarify something you said in response to the OP. You stated:

"Healthy trumpet technique might be defined as a clearly stated balance between focus and flow."

Would you please take a moment to elaborate on this idea, defining both focus and flow, and talk about just where the balance between the two might lie?

Thanks!

Jason

Jason,

Thank you for your kind words.

Listen carefully to your sound. You've achieved perfect balance when each center flows/releases into the next with relaxed energy and without changing timbre. Our ears, not simply a concept, should be our guide.

Noodle around with the ideas presented in the Bai-Lin thread and get back to me, ok?

Best,
EC
