La Tromba

Hey Ed,
I just received Ed Tarr's new edition of The Trumpet and I noticed in the afterword that he mentions Gabriele Cassone's book La Tromba. I thought I remembered you or someone else on here talking about a possible English translation of that book would be coming out soon. Any idea if this is still in the works? I for one would love to get a copy, as I have read several reviews of the book claiming that it is top notch. Any info would be great.
Thanks,
Peter

Re: La Tromba

Peter,

Two of my very good friends (I'll let them identify themselves should they read this) are putting the finishing touches on the English translation of Cassone's "La Tromba" as we speak. I think we'll see it rather soon.

That said, publishing is a slippery slope. Take a look at this http://www.chosenvalemusic.org/ec/ph...llery/ec27.jpg
Please note that the esteemed publisher, Vienna's Universal Edition, announces at the bottom that this comprehensive release of every trumpet part that Mahler ever wrote, along with my commentary and suggestions for performance, was due to be released in Spring 2004 (about a year before Mike Sach's project of a similar nature surfaced). I've received payment and have galley proofs, but am still waiting for the silly thing to come out.

Oh well,
EC (we'll see La Tromba soon, no doubt)

Re: La Tromba

Peter and Ed,

An English edition of Gabriele Cassone's La Tromba is in production right now -- its English title will be The Trumpet Book, to distinguish it from Tarr's title.

The book will be published by the same publisher as the Italian edition (Zecchini Editore), and will have the same beautiful color photos and illustrations as the Italian edition.

The current plan is to publish the book by May 2009, so that Cassone can present it at the 2009 ITG Conference in Harrisburg. Cassone is scheduled to appear at the ITG Conference as a solo artist.

I'll be sure to post more information as it becomes available.

Thanks for your interest!

-Tom

Re: La Tromba

Tom and Ed,
Thanks for the great info! I really look forward to getting this book. I will be at the ITG this year, so maybe I will pick it up then. Quick question, is there a price on the book yet, or perhaps maybe a price range? Again thanks for the info.
Peter
