![]() | Machine Project at LACMA Hey All, I have a piece being performed at the LA Co. Museum of Art(LACMA) next saturday (the 15th). The Machine Project, a small gallery space in Echo Park, has been given the keys to this museum, and are putting in over 50 installations for Nov. 15th only. They asked me to do one hour of music in their elevators, so I got together a small brass trio, and have written a piece for the space. It has been really cool to write site specific music for brass-we are loud. here is a video of the rehearsal. (with some rehearsal from a duo called ING mixed in) Musical Elevators rehearsal #2 + ING rehearse walking and playing music on Vimeo If anyone is living in LA, its going to be a really fun day at the museum, and my piece goes on at 2 in the Ahmanson building. Thanks muchly, -chris PS-the piece has changed since these rehearsals--here, we are improvising. PPS-here the trio is myself, Luke Storm (tuba), and Matt Barbier(trombone)-but Shelly Suminski will be performing in Mat's place. Last edited by ckallmyer; 11-10-2008 at 11:53 AM. |

I really miss CalArts and look forward to my sabbatical ending (yikes! did I say that?) so that I can be part of things produced by nuts like you. Best wishes for your debut at LACMA and TMers......try to catch this if you're in the area? Grinning like a chimp, EC |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Machine Project at LACMA Ed, You got it in one, my friend. Chris' work at CalArts can't be used in the same sentence as muzak (or, I don't know.....perhaps he would enjoy that? "Chris Kallmyer: creative muzak for the inner soul since 2007"). :) Best, EC |

![]() | Re: Machine Project at LACMA Its been called worse! the piece is a remix of "you are the sunshine of my life" played on flugel horn and digitized rhythm section. . . . or not. call it what you will. -chucky m. of the avant-garde |

![]() | Re: Machine Project at LACMA Acoustically perfect is the last thing I'd call them. As a matter of fact, we went to do a dress rehearsal yesterday, and discovered that one of the elevators is broken. HA! The curator has been on the phone with the repair people, and it should be fixed by saturday----what a hilarious problem. I never thought something like that would be an issue with the performance of my music. Shelly and Luke are doing a wonderful job. Carl--Its so great to hear from you. You were such a positive force back in my days of playing in the Orchestra in SO. MD. If you have been checking my evolution on here, then you've probably only heard my more militant opinions mixed with devil's advocate discussions. shoot me an e-mail-- chris (dot) kallmyer (at) gmail best, -chris |

I suspect Barbier's behind this. Frisk him for melted screwdrivers and such. Best and bon chance, EC | |
