![]() | May in Italia TMers, I'm taking two of my students, Amy Horvey (DMus. candidate at McGill) and Philippe Brunet (MFA candidate at CalArts) with me when I make my annual masterclass trek to Italy this spring. ![]() | Re: May in Italia A.N.A., Everything is in the north. We start in Bergamo (one of my all-time favorite places to be. Our concert and my masterclass is at the Conservatorio “Gaetano Donizetti” ), Novara (Conservatorio “Guido Cantelli" -- the concert and my masterclasses will be part of their Festival Fiati), Milano, and Biella. I'm looking forward both to the educational opportunity afforded by travelling/playing and to hanging out in a wonderful part of the world. Best, EC |

![]() | Re: May in Italia Sandy, You've touched on a new music nerve. These pieces are usually prepared to only be performed once, often in festival settings, denying the performers a chance to grow with them over a compressed amount of time in the fashion of, say, a concerto on a subscription series of a top orchestra. I'm VERY interested in how the last 2 concerts go. . . We're improvising the interludes, by the way. Best and good to "see" you, amiga EC |

![]() ![]() | Re: May in Italia Having recently worked up a ton of hard pieces recently for a friend's cd release I can really say multiple performances are the way to go. We just got done our 4th concert in a week and by the end it was like we all had "firewire" connections to each other's brains. I can only imagine what it would be like to tour for 5-6 months or find a steady long term engagement. ah... to dream! -t |

![]() | Re: May in Italia I would suggest plenty of rest (physical) before the last 2 concerts. Tours can be physically demanding, and our minds can go hang out in funny places after giving our best for an extended period. Totally unlike closing night at a muscial theater when we've established a routine of playing the same thing in the same place for a while, but I'd much rather hang out in Italy in May than the pit. Have a great time! |

![]() | Re: May in Italia Justin, Philippe is making a solo CD of works for unaccompanied trumpet at CalArts this summer. Exposed Throat, Solus, and Kryl will certainly be included. I always make a point of having my students record when things are completed and ready to do so. ie: if you're interested in Scelsi's Quattro Pezzi, Tisne's Emotion, or Maresz' Metallics, please take a listen here: http://www.matthew-brown.com/Recordings.html Maybe I'll bring a video camera to Italy and upload a few things to youtube? The point of the trip is educational, not promotional, but we'll see. I love spreading the word about this wonderful repertoire. . . Best, EC |
