(more) Upcoming Concerts

TMers,

For those of you within reasonable driving distance of Montreal, there are four upcoming programs of great interest at McGill that will successfully (knock wood) blend a wide variety of older and modern music -- a hot topic in recent threads here. These concerts are free for the public to attend and I would greatly enjoy meeting you there.

Questions or comments?

Best,
EC

Matthew,

You'll meet them all at Chosen Vale this summer and will have plenty of chance to compare notes on this stuff.

Cheers,
EC

Re: (more) Upcoming Concerts

I wish Montreal was a little closer! These all look to be great recitals - quite a line up for the 23rd, I have to say. Hope there is one big party planned.

Can you tell us a little more about the world premieres? I only know a little about the composers - but not really anything about the pieces. Ryan Purchase wrote something for Amy Horvey last year, yes? I know Alex Eddington has done some theater things in Edmonton area - is this piece theatrical as well, or "strictly musical"? (Irony intended.) Trevor Grahl is an organist in Montreal, isn't he?

And I would still really love to see the LeBaron - I know you mentioned a possible audio from the April 14th recital in LA, but I really want to know what more about the visuals, too.

Hungry for more info-

Sandy

Re: (more) Upcoming Concerts

Sandy,

I'll send you the notes after they have been written.

Jeremy is from Alberta and wonderfully organized. He has a great eye for grants, the necessary determination to apply for them, and has been successful with the provincial arts council level. I consider this his greatest strength (good trumpet playing can be built but personalities are simply that).

Fun that you mention Amy. She's leaving her orchestra gig to do a DMus at McGill next year (and will also be at Chosen Vale).

Hang tight for the LeBaron. I'll solve this for you.

Best,
EC

Re: (more) Upcoming Concerts

Sandy,
The eddington doesn't have any real theater, there is a little bit of speech, but when I approached Alex, I asked for a serious piece, The piece is very cool, and works great in a live hall. Ryan did write a piece for amy last year, the work that I am premiering on monday is for Mezzo, two celli, flugel. I have taken out a DHD camcorder, and will be recording my recital. Hopefully I'll have it posted on youtube or something by mid-may.
Jer!
(also, I know the piece Amy commissioned is available from Ryan Purchase directly. It's very cool and I encourage you to contact him to get it directly. His website is Hippocampal Music dot com: The music of Ryan Purchase )
