Music Over Coffee

I'm sitting here in a coffee shop and, since Ed seems to have dubbed this "Share the Music Day", I have a few recent finds I thought I'd share with my fellow TMers.

First, Mark O'Keefe (principal of the BBC Scottish Symphony) has released a CD of solo trumpet music including the Davies Litany, Turnage's An Aria (with dancing) (which should be familiar to all those Chosen Vale participants), and several commissions. It can be found here:

http://shop.castleclassics.co.uk/aca...llections.html

On that same page toward the bottom is a newer release by Reinhold Friedrich and Robyn Schulkowsky of music for trumpet and percussion. There's some really interesting stuff on this CD. John Cage's Sonata for Two Voices really works well in this combination.

Marco Blaauw also has a new album out (at least it was new to me), but rather than me describing it to you I'll just let you read about it here:

http://www.marcoblaauw.com/media/dat...Newsletter.pdf

...and then go buy it here:

Anyone else know of some stuff we should all check out?

Matthew,

Did you meet Christian Wolfe at the Stockhausen/Rosenboom improv concert? His Pulse for trumpet and percussion is found on Reinhold's latest CD.

Have you heard Mark O'Keeffe's Apocalypse project? It's brilliant. http://www.trumpetmaster.com/vb/f146...tch-24672.html (Names to Watch?)

Cheers and thanks for the links,
EC

I believe we were in the same proximity. I think the apocalypse project is incredible. There's a video preview of it here:

Interesting that you brought it up, I just sent this link to Philippe not 15 minutes ago.

Re: Music Over Coffee

Matthew,

Thanks for the link.

TMers please talk note: there are people out there in the world creating new art, not just rehashing the old. Mark collaborated with a composer and video artist on this project and the result is outstanding (sorry that only a short clip is found on his site but this is probably meant as a tease to attend a live performance) (cue muffled "hear, hear"s from the crowd).

Apocalypse was Mark's doctoral dissertation at St. Andrews, if I remember correctly. The RSAMD & St. Andrews have a promising arrangement for projects of this sort and John Wallace served as his advisor. I helped with some of the text for the Creative Scotland grant and was thrilled for my meagre contribution when Mark got it (!)

Keep digging,
EC
