New Youtube video

Dear all,

I just now started putting up videos from from my Recital from nearly a year ago. This is the Jolivet Heptade for trumpet and percussion (in three parts). Sadly, I don't think it's that well known and it's easily the hardest piece I've ever played. The percussion part isn't exactly a cakewalk wither. Ed introduced it to me and I'm very glad that he did. Ed sorry it took so long to get the videos up.

Matt

Re: New Youtube video

Matt,

Thanks for posting this.

Hakan played Heptade this season in San Francisco, so maybe it will have a revival of interest in North America. This will help (and you played the daylights out of it). What about the rest of your show? Do you have video? Antheil and Prokofiev were particularly memorable for me and I'd like to revisit them (?)

By the way, Andreas aced his final recital on Sunday night (Baldassare: Sonata in F, Enesco: Legende, Tamberg: Concerto, Shchedrin: In the Style of Albeniz. (pause) Shostokovich: Three Fantastic Dances, R. Strauss: Four Last Songs) and recently received the good news of a Fulbright next year. He'll spend it with Cassone in Novara.

Best,
EC

Re: New Youtube video

JC,

Few have tried Heptade because 1) it's far harder for the solo trumpeter, technically, than the Concertino or Second Concerto, and 2) the percussion notation has to be carefully worked out. It's not a sight-reading piece on any level.

Best,
EC

Matt,

Sounds great! I've always had a strong affinity for this piece, even over Jolivet's other trumpet works. Really great performance!

Re: New Youtube video

Thanks to everyone for the kind remarks.

Ed,

I'm rediscovering online technology, and have consequently, in the last two days, all but wrecked my website in trying to get these videos up... anyway. Here's the Prokofiev:

YouTube - Matthew Brown, Prokofiev's Five Melodies (1 of 2)

YouTube - Matthew Brown, Prokofiev's Five Melodies (2 of 2)

And the first mvmt of the John Michael Clarke Cascades

YouTube - Matthew Brown, Cascade

This whole experience with youtube has reminded of just how common of a name Matt Brown is. I've actually met myself three or four times... very weird experience. Although, since moving to Germany, I've had to actually spell my name for people on more than one occasion. If you want an exotic name, just move. Antheil to come in a day or two.

Matt

Thanks for posting these, Matt. It's always great to hear you play. Memories of Strav Sym in C, the Planets, and Mahler 5 in Vegas ...
