Old School

TMers,

Take a listen to Vladimir Kafelnikov (I believe) pin everyone's ears back with the old Leningrad Philharmonic (Mravinsky). The energy is wonderful, isn't it?

Best,
EC

Re: Old School

Thats probably the best recording of that piece I've ever heard. Mravinsky is fantastic.

Re: Old School

That piece sounds pretty intense but the conductor doesn't look too into it.

C'mon Ed!

Everyone knows that no self-respecting 21st century new-age trumpeter doesn't combine power and style with enthusiasm!

(Hmmm, still looking for the "sarcasm" button.)

Still reeling in the years...

Re: Old School

B15,

Few have been more connected to the music than Mravinsky and because of that he's considered one of the titanic conductors of the 20th century (most of the Shostokovich and Prokofiev scores were premiered by him). His intensity is intellectual, not physical.

Best,
EC
