![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Outside the box TMers, I was perusing the Berlin Philharmonic's website last night, enjoying the many high-definition options that they offer in an effort (successful so far) to expand their audience. Bravi to all and bravo especially to Simon for his vision. Who do you nominate for performing "outside the box" these days? Here's a snippet from Stockhausen's Aries, performed by Steve Burns and dancers on his Fulcrum Point Series: Adding choreography provides another element, doesn't it? Best and watching here with interest, EC |

![]() | Re: Outside the box Ed, I have to be honest, my highest nomination has to go to Mnozill. I know it's not as "out there" as the stuff that Burns or Markus are doin, but they've managed to create international careers that really draw in the audience. They have top notch chamber music, and the addition of singing, dancing, "acting" really puts the show over the top. I also would like to suggest the Met. Their series of HD broadcasts in theaters is really becoming a hit, and helping them reach wider audiences. It's the kind of thinking that is necessary to keep them relevant in a changing world. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Outside the box Håkan Hardenberger (trumpet) and Christian Lindberg (trombone) put on an excellent concert in Residenzschloss Ludwigsburg and is near the top of my "outside the box" list (which also contains the Don Ellis Orchestra if third-stream jazz counts) but Markus Stockhausen's concert with trumpet and synthesizer in Kloster Maulbronn was magic! I vote for Markus!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Outside the box J, The MET live broadcasts have been a hit since the moment they were launched and yes, I applaud them for thinking outside the subscriber's box. Somebody used his/her brain there and is continuing to do so. I agree that by introducing their voices Mnozil broke the mold for brass chamber music. Big personalities coupled with new ideas often equal success. Vulg, By definition Markus has never been inside any particular box. Perhaps that alone qualifies as outside thinking? This, for those of you that don't know him yet (and why don't you? You've been prompted enough here), is a pure musician that happens to play the trumpet better than most/all. TMers, One word about the Berlin/MET references above -- they are major advancements in bringing culture to distant points and I'm REALLY excited by them as a possible model for all serious arts organizations to investigate, but multi-camera HD broadcasts, surround sound, etc., will never replicate the experience of actually being in the house. Please experience and support (good) live music. Cheers and keep 'em coming, EC |

| Piano User | Re: Outside the box Sorry to bring this back around to Stockhausen, but I was very impressed with musikFabrik's production of Michaels Reise (and with Marco Blaauw's unique identity as a performer in general): All those mentioned in this thread so far are very unique. I love the diversity. Last edited by mahaberio; 10-25-2009 at 09:38 PM. |
