TMers,

Perhaps some of you have heard of the passing of another native son of Montreal, Oscar Peterson . . . a major, major musician.

Re: R.I. P. Oscar

I heard this on the radio on Christmas Eve. It is a very sad thing. I had to chance to play for Oscar, as well as attend a few clinics he did at my school. He is my favorite pianist, and a massive contribution to jazz and music.

Re: R.I. P. Oscar

A very sad day indeed. All of my idols are passing on to Heaven's band.

I've been listening to OP non-stop since I heard of his passing.

Oscar Peterson was my favourite jazz pianist as well.
This is a sad day for jazz. I'm off to listen to Oscar peterson trio+1.

Re: R.I. P. Oscar

Here in Montreal the jazz community is in mourning. Most of us at one point or another played with Oscar or had the chance to meet the man.Once upon a time Montreal was part of that famous touring circuit in the 40-50-60's. Everybody played here and that's why in major part people like Oscar, Maynard, Guido Basso and others were discovered.I'm proud to be a Montrealer but losing greats like Oscar and Maynard saddens us since we know we will never live those types of musical moments again. We can only cherish the memories and remember them through their music!
