(Re)discovering Leroy Anderson

I'm a comeback player and I have recently rediscovered some wonderful trumpet music (specifically Trumpeters Lullaby and Buglers Holiday). I remembered these from my childhood, but never could assign a title or composer to them. These songs motivated me to start playing the trumpet many, many years ago.

What songs do you remember from your childhood that made you want to start playing the trumpet?

If you are a music educator of young people, I urge you to expose them to this composer's work.

Re: (Re)discovering Leroy Anderson

Rob,

When I was a young pup I had a cousin who was a member of the old Musical Heritage Society. He gave me many of their Erato re-issues of Maurice Andre playing baroque transcriptions (I still have some of those black & white covers) and this early aural planting was scratched over the years until it was raw! I was delighted when the MHS re-issued one of my discs of the same before they went under.

I've moved on to other musics now but agree that early exposure to great music and great trumpet playing is very important.

Welcome to TM and thanks for contributing.
