![]() | Schools Hello, I'm applying to universities this year and I'm interested in considering european schools, in france or germany maybe. What are some such schools, and what do you know about the application process, difficulties I might have, or any other thoughts about it? Duncan |

![]() | Re: Schools Duncan, If you're considering European schools, get on this VERY quickly! I remember when I was applying for my masters that some schools (I believe the Royal in England was one, and maybe the RSAMD) had deadlines as Early as October 1 (I just checked that, and after some searching, it is true!). Just thought I'd let you know so you don't miss out. Jer |

Tony Plog teaches at Freiburg, so English is no problem, except in the other courses, of course. I would suggest Werner Heckmann in Stuttgart--if your chops and German are together he can teach you tons about making music. Early in my time in Germany I played a funeral gig with him (our villages were within five miles apart) and didn't know him at all--other than he played real good and was easy to lock into. If you are looking for gigs while studying, go to Germany. Tons of stuff going on, and you don't have to be a "professional," like in France. Be prepared, however, for a--hole conductors to rip you a new one if you can't speak up and defend yourself--it is a German tradition that trumpeters can rip conductors a new one too, and some really nasty public discourses can result. Fun stuff!
