Silent Brass Mute Effects?

Hello,

I'm a trumpet player that would like to experiment with some effects using my silent brass mute. I would like to output to an amp and use the silent brass mute as a pickup, but I was wondering what to use for effects. I was look at something like the BOSS ME-50 Multi-Effects Pedal, but I was wondering if anyone has tried this. Are there other options? I'm looking for harmonization, delays, etc. It would be nice to know a cheaper, inexpensive way of doing this, but I'm interested in something that will work well.

Although your post qualifies for the general trumpet part of the forum, you would probably get more responses in Ed Carrolls Artist forum or The Jazz Forum moderated by Trent.
I will move this thread to Eds forum and leave a redirect here.

Re: Silent Brass Mute Effects?

Poet,

The only good thing I can say about silent brass (and the mic inside) is that you can get a good end-over-end when throwing it into the dumpster. Humidity builds up quickly with such a closed environment. Why not use a good microphone?

Best,
EC

I am glad to see that someone else feels the same as I do about Silent Brass. I sold mine and never want to see another.

Re: Silent Brass Mute Effects?

I think a better route is to go acoustic and use a vocal effects processor like the Digitech products. I really enjoy using mine!

Best,

Re: Silent Brass Mute Effects?

Adam Rapa does all kinds of cool stuff with the silent brass piped though an effects processor. Check out his CD and some of his vids on YouTube and the ITG web site.

Re: Silent Brass Mute Effects?

Thanks for all the quick responses everyone!

Well It seem that the silent brass isn't the way to go, but maybe I will try Trent's suggestion. Please tell me more about this? I do I have a mic so the silent brass isn't my only option.

I have heard what Adam Rapa does. I believe he uses something like an effects pedals.

Re: Silent Brass Mute Effects?

Poet,

If you're serious about traveling down this very cool road, look into vocal effects software and, if a mouse is inconvenient, a trigger such as a pedal. Buy a good clip-on microphone (wireless gives you more freedom, naturally) and fool around for a few weeks.

Please report back with your findings?

Best,
EC

Re: Silent Brass Mute Effects?

Yes it is a very fun road I plan to travel
Do you have any software to recommend? I have Logic Pro on my MacBook.
I will definitely look into a wireless mic. Thanks for the suggestion! And I will of course report back my finding once I get this all straight.
