Slim in Beaten dreamers

TMers,

Nick Didkovsky's fabulous SLIJM IN BEATEN DREAMERS received a great performance by my CalArts kids at the Disney Hall a few weeks ago. You can check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...l&search_type=

Let me know what you think?

Best,
EC

Re: Slim in Beaten dreamers

Hey, Ed,

Interesting piece, obviously very well prepared. I'm sure it comes across a thousand times more effectively in person, I'd love to have been there. Keep up the great work!

Best wishes,
Chas

Re: Slim in Beaten dreamers

Ed,

It did sound very well prepared... more so than when we played it last year. Something I was wondering, that you couldn't tell from the short clips on youtube, was how they transitioned between movements? For those of you who don't know the piece, it's about 14 different movements/pieces that last from 1 to 4 minutes. My biggest qualm when playing it was that it came off too fragmented and needed a more fluid presentation to really be effective.

Slim and Beaten Dreamers is a word scramble and all the movements are titled with the same letters: An Idle Saint Remembers, etc sorry I can't remember all of them. This is by far the hardest rhythmic music I've ever had to learn. Sounds like they nailed it though. Crazy dress Steph was wearing.
