Somei Satoh

Hey Ed,

I've been reading up on contemporary japanese composers for this entrance essay I'm writing. I was wondering if you had any exposure to Somei Satoh or Jo Kondo when they were living in NYC. I think that Steve Burns premiered some of Satoh's pieces, but other then that I can't find much info about them.

Cheers,
CG

I know Somei Sato wrote a piece called "Light" that was written for/premiered by Stephen Burns. Extremely lyrical trumpet part over a very minimilistic piano accompaniment. It's a very beautiful piece, but also fairly demanding endurance wise as I recall.

Charlie,

We heard a good 1986 piece by Somei Satôh called HIKARI at Chosen Vale last month. E-mail me and I'll send you Stevie's address.

Best,
EC

I just went on a 4-month search for this piece. I finally had a digital copy sent to me about two weeks ago. If you'd like it, send me a message.
