Tippett: A Child of Out Time

Hi Ed:

Have you (or anyone else) played this piece? I'm going to play 1st tpt. on it in May and I know nothing about it.

I've played Tippett's last 2 symphonies but never his oratorio (perhaps his most famous work). I'm assuming you're performing it with a big choir? If so be prepared to play brightly to cut through the muck. Sorry not to be able to add more.

I played it many years ago. It bears looking over. I think you can get a recording of the work at iTunes.

I'm going to stop in at Barnes and Noble tomorrow and ask Richard Schneider about a recording.

I played it a couple of years ago.. there are some significant trumpet solos.. nothing too technical... just melody lines in one or two of the spirituals.
There are solo parts on all three trumpet parts.

None other. He's the manager of classical music recordings at the B&N across from Lincoln Center. He's one of those guys who knows everything about every recording ever made. I'll tell him you asked.
