Trumpet and Prepared Piano

I am working on a presentation for my "Electronic/Timbrally Oriented Music" class (that's not actually what it's called) and am doing a presentation on timbral/electronic trumpet music and would like to talk about/perform something completely acoustic. I also love prepared piano and thought this would be a good opportunity for a collaboration. Does anyone know of any pieces for trumpet and prepared piano?

Rocks; Gardens for Trumpet and Piano (1970) Eric Richards.

err, I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for and maybe someone more knowledgable can clarify the use of the piano in this piece. The piano directions seem to suggest the depressing of piano strings. But other then that it's not like you put stuff in the piano to change timbres and colors.

FWIW,
CG

Technically not a prepared piano, but the berio sequenza x is for trumpet and piano resonance (the piano hammers never actually strike the strings, just resonate sympathetically with the sound of the trumpet). Sounds like the same thing as the Richards piece, though i don't know that one.

Along the same lines, i composed a work for trumpet and gong/tam-tam resonances. PM me your address if you would like me to send you a copy.

Cheers!

Hi all,

Sorry for being so inattentive lately. Lots of stuff in the fire and few brain cells left to manage all of it...

The Sequenza is oft discussed here and piano resonance isn't anything like prepared piano. That said, I don't really know of a piece for trumpet & prepared piano. The various ways of preparation make such delicate timbre changes. . . usually found only in works for solo piano, not piano and.

Charlie, didn't I give you that piece? (Frog Peak?)

I'll watch here with interest for titles that have escaped my attention.

Cheers,
EC

Hey Ed,

That is correct that it is from Frog Peakhttp://www.frogpeak.org

I ordered it a few months ago along with K.Gaburo's Mouth-piece since there is something going on with Lingua Press. I don't remember what but they seem to be heading toward the land of out-of-print. I also picked a few other things. I don't recall if we ever talked about the Richard's piece. But, I think I will have to pick your brain when I get to that it. It looks pretty complex.

Ciao,
CG

P.S. I look forward to hearing Beth trujillo @IWBC in june.

Maha,

Let's all keep our eyes and ears open.

Charlie,

Tom Dambly plays the living daylights out od Gaburo's Mouth-Piece and will be giving it at Chosen Vale. Bet's Sequenza is good -- she has the best delicate articulation that I've ever heard (more a tribute to her Salvation Army band past than my teaching).

Be good,
EC

Ed,

Thanks for the compliment! (I assume you are refering to me..Bet?)

I'm getting all geared up to play it in a couple of weeks in Illinois. Just a little more touch-up work to do before it's ready. I'll let you know how it goes.
