| Trumpet and Soprano Works Ed, My wife and I are looking for some trumpet and soprano works to play on her upcoming recital. We have the standards-Bach, Handel and, Scarlatti's all of which she can do but really doesn't fit her voice type. Do know of any other works that you have possibly done in the past? Thanks for you help. Brett |

![]() | Re: Trumpet and Soprano Works What do you mean she can sing the classical works but it doesn't fit her voice type? Are you saying she is not a Bel Canto singer? Help us out. SORRY, I jumped the gun on Ed's response. I am very interested in what people have to offer. I could use this for a Renaissance Fair, trumpet and soprano gig. | Re: Trumpet and Soprano Works My wife can do it but she isn't a coloratura soprano. According to her these arias fit that voice type the best with all the high runs and stuff. She is a lyric soprano, her teacher says that she is best fit for Mozart and Strauss. We were going to look into the Ewazen "To Cast A Shadow" but she thinks it is going to be too low since it is written for mezzo-soprano. Thanks for your help. Brett |

| Re: Trumpet and Soprano Works You might look at Bert Truax's "Grace." There's a review of the ITG performance at ITG 2003 New Works for Trumpet . You can order the recording or music at: Bert Truax White Rock Music Company, Dallas, Texas Matt |

| Re: Trumpet and Soprano Works A few more pieces to check into... The first two I've performed and enjoyed. The next two I've only heard and liked. (I'm not sure who published them, whether they're arrangements or original, etc.) The Wildgans is with piano and I merely own the sheet music. Anthony Plog "Two Scenes" for tpt/sop/org Geoffrey Burgon "At the Round Earth's Imagined Corners" Wolfgang Plagge "Liber Sequentarium" op. 114a Carson P Cooman "Orbiting Pardise" op. 653 Friedrich Wildgans "Der mystische Trompeter" Good luck, Jeff Work |

![]() | Re: Trumpet and Soprano Works Brett, Best to look at this in context with the rest of her program. What else will she be singing? Bruce Adolphe wrote a wonderful piece called MADRIGALI for Lucy Shelton and I some years ago. It's scored for soprano, 2 trumpets, bassoon, and positif organ (essentially a b.c. group). Lucy isn't/wasn't a coloratura by any means. Perhaps your wife knows her voice? Best and watching here, EC (I just noticed that this forum has cracked 3000 posts and will be watching the mailbox for a gold watch or something) (holding breath) (really) |

| Re: Trumpet and Soprano Works First off, thanks for all of your replies. My wife's program includes works by Mozart, Bizet, Puccini, Beach, and Strauss so there is definitely a wide array of works being performed. From what has been posted I think any of these works would possibly work. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks again. Brett |

![]() | Re: Trumpet and Soprano Works coloratura: I should have known this as the alternate. Bel Canto is a style and era in music. Sorry to say I don't know anything contemporary. Have your wife look at the website on my signature. She may find something you can arrange. Ask on the International Trumpet Guild web site. A competition was held for new music for voice and trumpet. Finally, send an email to Nicklus Ecklund: Niklas Eklund Trumpet Nicklus is a great and good person as was his father. |

| Re: Trumpet and Soprano Works I think this piece is not too high for the soprano (the highest note is an A above the staff) and is still a baroque piece it mainly has eight notes with some few sixteen notes at a Allegro Moderato tempo: Konzert, "Veni Consolator" by P.D. Stachowicz (1658-1699), for Sop. Trp and Organ, published by Wolfgang G. Hass-Musikverlag. LMA |

| Re: Trumpet and Soprano Works I work with a dramatic soprano, and there really aren't a lot of pieces out there that work well for either lyric or dramatic soprano and trumpet. We've had 2 pieces written for us - Cycle of Songs by Susan Kander, and Captivity by Lori Laitman, but both are 30-40 minutes long, so not what you need for this program. Other suggestions that would work really well: Peter Tiefenbach - Three Poems Beautiful writing for both parts. Telemann - Göttlichs Kind, lass mit Entzücken (scored for trumpet, violin and soprano) Soprano line is mid-range - lies completely on the staff, low D to high F. It is a lullaby, really. I edited the trumpet and violin parts into one part and put some of the parallel passages into the piano/organ part. Samuel Barber - we created a trumpet part from the counter melody in "Sure on This Shining Night" - works well if you are looking for a lyrical trumpet line. Other Barber songs work well also.... If you really want something unusual, you could try Schoenberg's Nachtwandler (1901). Piccolo, trumpet in F, snare drum and piano, and singer. It is one of a set of cabaret songs he wrote while in Berlin. Certianly would fit within the time frame of the other composer's she is doing, even though it is very different stylistically. Let us know how it goes! |
