| Comeback player new here..... Greetings, My name is Michael Constantin. I live in central California. I am 45 years old, love God and my family. I played through high school; even spent some time with Maynard Ferguson back stage in 1974 while he was touring and playing his Chameleon album stuff. My family was grooming me to be a pro which I was dreaming of becoming. Well, my family disintegrated when I was 16 and so did my trumpet playing. I took another road and am now a former cop/military, 7th degree black belt martial arts professor and school owner. I have been playing guitar and piano, but, wondering for 20 something years what I could have been on the trumpet. I started playing again a few years ago for a year and a half then was forced by work to put it up again. Well, four weeks ago I started playing again after crying out to God. I am playing along with some Maynard Ferguson CDs. I also started training with the principal trumpet player for the Tulare County Symphony. I played a double high C for him on my 1st lesson and he freaked! Well, then he saw the state of my sight reading and the freak out was over. Anyway, I will play from now until God brings me home. My goal is to play professionally as a lead jazz/contemporary Christian artist. I start college jazz and concert band in August and will be slowly putting a Christian contemporary/big band/funk/rock fusion group together. Kind of like Maynard Ferguson meets the Christian group "The Newsboys" ! Anyway, I hope it's not too late for me. I am playing things I never dreamed possible at 4 weeks. I hope God lays His hands on me and gives me a pro career. I bought a "Blessing" LTML-1S, professional jazz/lead horn. When I get some financial freedom I will upgrade equipment. Anyway, I look forward to learning as much as I can from you all. Any advice or resources would be appreciated more than words can say. God's blessings to all of you, Mike |

| Re: Comeback player new here..... Welcome to TrumpetMaster Michael! It sounds like you have a great start, and with your attitude, we expect much. Although...I have never heard of ANYONE who had a black belt in Martial Arts AND could play trumpet well! Enjoy your stay! -cw- Last edited by Solar Bell : 04-16-2007 at 07:00 AM. |

| Re: Comeback player new here..... If I heard someone play trumpet badly and I knew they had a 7th degree blackbelt, I'd tell them they were superb. Wise man say "It is much easier to play with teeth in head, than in glass next to bed". My dad failed recorder in college (couldn't play Mary had a small woolly mammal). He took up the Euphonium at 45 when we all joined a brass band. In 1988, when he retired, he was awarded Citizen of the year as part of the Australia Day presentations for 'Significant Contribution to Music Education' after learning to conduct and running and organising Concert Band programs that 100's of children benefitted from. And he was tone deaf. With your early interest, you'll just kill it. Good luck. Life begins at 40. It's just that anyone younger than that fails to realise it. |

| Mezzo Piano User | Re: Comeback player new here..... Hey Tom. I need to talk to you! I visited a traditional Aikido studio recently and they let me work out with them one evening. I had a great time but left a little worried about someone breaking my wrist one of these days. Is that something you see a lot of or am I just a little (old) & paranoid. I need an art to take me into my old age. I'm coming up on 50 in a few weeks~ Thanks* |
