converting b flat trumpet to c

I have a Bobby Shew b flat trumpet, currently i am not sure if I will be using that or my Getzen eterna. I have been idle for 10 years and just got back into playing. i have been back playing for 2 months and want to get my orchestra chops back up. Is it worth converting a b flat to c and how much would it cost? i am not rolling in money at this time, is it worth even bothering doing this?

Sell one Bb and buy a used C. I picked up an excellent Besson Classic (Najoom-Kanstul Bach 229 clone) for well under $1000.

It will be much less hassle and much cheaper to just buy a good used C. There is way too much involved in converting a Bb to a C and then you may have a great deal of intonation problems.

Or, you could just play the Bb in the orchestra, which is very common in the UK for example.

Decide first which Bb you like best. Then look around. It may be possible to trade the other for a C, or if not sell it and buy a good used C. I bought a Yamaha C (in my signature) for $800.00. It was in my tech's shop on consignment. Beautiful horn and plays like a dream.

    C to D !

    I have a cheap Amati in C, and a vintage picc. which I can't tune to A.
but need something for weddings (D and A)
on the Bb the wedding keys and range are not optimal and sound ....

This thread is 5 years old......a ghost thread just in time for halloween!
Vulgano Brother and Kang-Ling like this.
Lots of old horns...some Bachs, Some conns, A Getzen or two...
The playing is in the player, not the horn. Find the sound in yourself first.
