![]() | Gord from NJ Hello from NJ After 30 years I picked up my old trumpet that I played in high school at the urging of my brother-in-law, who just started to play, at the age of sixty. My horn is a C.G.Conn, serial # 277470 made in 1930 model 22B. The slides are all frozen and the valves are slow, but it still sounds good (to me). My father forced me to play the trumpet in school, little did he know he probably saved my life. I joined the Marines in 1969 and wound up in the 4th Marine Air Wing Drum and Bugle Team. So, instead of going to Nam, I traveled around the midwest playing at state fairs and the Mardi Gras in 1970. Some of you might remember that was the year Al Hirt was hit in the mouth with a brick playing on one of the floats. I hope to learn alot here. Thanks Gord4862 |

Man, I sure DO remember Jumbo getting popped in the chops with that brick. He made quite a comback though! A little advice, although I am an Ultra-Pure oil guy, I would recommend that you get a bottle of ZaJa scented oil for your stcky, slow valves. Look up ZaJa on Google) I know many guys that use the scented oil on the older Conns and Selmer K-Mods because for some reason that works great on the older horns. (make sure you get the scented, any aroma) Enjoy the site! -cw-

![]() | Re: Gord from NJ Welcome to TM - Consider taking your horn over to Dillon's in Woodbridge and have them do a professional cleaning and get the slides moving - will be worth it!!!! http://www.dillonmusic.com/ And yes - I still cringe at the memory of when Al Hirt got injured. Amazing that he was able to come back! Another thing close to you - check out the Hawthorne Cabellero's Alum band if you ever get the chance - they still do the old style show - and they sound just great! The Hawthorne Caballeros Alumni Drum & Bugle Corps. Good luck on the comeback trail.
