Greetings fellow trumpeters

Hi. This is my first posting. I'm a semi-pro living in N. Cal. (My day gig is an applied math professor). Been playing for (burp!) 50 years, but I was probably a lot better 40 years ago. Grew up in NY and did the Catskill scene in the early 1960's. I currently play a Bach 72 lightweight (silver plate), Getzen Eterna 3 valve Flugel, Bach Strad shepherds crook cornet, and double on flugabone (I play an Olds with a Parduba double cup mouthpiece).

Look forward to hearing from the rest of you heavyweights!

Steve

Welcome to TM, flugler--now we have someone to keep us honest about the mathematics we trumpeters use. Any tips on counting rests?

I play in a Silicon Valley big band (no, not THE "Silicon Valley Big Band" which I believe exists [or at least did during the Internet boom], but a big band largely comprised of Silicon Valley geeks and dweebs in their 50s and 60s).

The lead trumpeter counts extended rests on his fingers... in binary.

Hi John: not too far away from you - Menlo Park area. I was in 3 big bands, but one just went defunct. So down to two. We have tons of them up this way.

Re: Greetings fellow trumpeters

I've been playing only 3 years now, but i've gotten in to honor band, region band, region band, and region orchestra in that order over my 3 years. I play a bach strad 37 with a 5c (getting a 3c). I'm in marching band now, and its more than a little hard in this beautiful 110 degree Houston weather. I'm not pro, but I'm better than many players older than me.
