![]() | Greetings from Florida! Hello to all from Florida! I recently picked up my trumpet again and am getting back into it. I use to be pretty good for a kid but that was over a decade ago! After HS my goal had been to go to conservatory but my stepfather had different plans for my future. He told me one day that I was NOT to go to college for music that I would instead major in political science, then onto law school to become an attorney and join his law firm after passing the bar so that he could pursue a political career. Well I did not want to do that so I joined the military since I didn't have the support to do what I wanted and I didn't understand how scholorships and student loans worked back then. Eventually I just stopped playing. I've always really regreted that I didn't keep up with it because I had a lot of potential back then. Now that I'm older I want to get back into it with my end goal being starting a sexy little jazz trio or quartet with some fun people. I am VERY excited about finding this forum because I feel like I've forgotten just about everything except a few scales! Outside of music I am an unemployed securities principal and I volunteer actively for Italian Greyhound Rescue. I have 2 IGs, Niko and Bella. Bella can't stand the trumpet but Niko loves it and sings along whenever I practice. If any of you play gigs in the Orlando, FL area let me know I'd love to come out! Regards, A.M. |

![]() | Re: Greetings from Florida! Glad you joined us! I'm from the Gainesville area and get down to Orlando every once in a while. I am also a new member and a Stetson graduate--a shout out to Stile442 from Deland. I have been reading posts on this site for months and have learned a ton. Just now I have decided to jump in and give my 2 cents worth.

![]() ![]() | Re: Greetings from Florida! Welcome back, Aburgess. Many of us here are returning after putting the horn away for any number of different reasons. We all wish that we had continued even though some, like me, were never really good enough to aspire to a career in music. We all hope that you find some things here that will help you and will provide the motivation to keep going. Good luck with your interview and hopefully whatever employment you find will provide the time and means to continue playing. If I were not all the way across the country, I would like to join your sexy little jazz band. That sounds like loads of fun.
