![]() | Hi! I decided a couple of months ago that I need to play a brass instrument again. I used to have a King Silver Flair that I played regularly from the late-seventies to the late-eighties. Then I got sidetracked with other things A week ago I bought a cornet on eBay (I like the look of cornets, and decided a different variety of horn would help me to make a 'fresh start'). It should be here in a week or two! I'm pretty excited at the prospect. But having recently perused a few trumpet forums, I've noticed there in the last 20-30 years, there sure seems to have been a flood of 'new ideas' about brass playing. It's pretty fascinating reading about the different schools of 'technique' that have sprung up - and almost overwhelming to ponder all of the choices offered in 'MOUTHPIECE TECHNOLOGY'. Way back when, I played a standard-issue 7C and although I eventually bought a few other (1 1/4C, 3C, and 10C i think!)... I never really noticed much difference. Now, I'm a lot more inclined to want to start my 're-birth' on the right footing, and 'choose the right mouthpiece'. (At the very least, find an appropriate rim diameter!) But how to do that without buying 10 of them? Last edited by TGCS; 06-27-2008 at 09:24 PM. |
