BrassBug will become famous soon enough
Greetings from NE Ohio, USA....looking for a sore lip... :-)

Hi All,
First post here, starting to play again. I posted in the horns forum as well, but wanted to introduce myself!
My story is like many of yours, I started playing young (at 6, in a Salvation Army band) and continued through HS & college, becoming a pretty good player. Then I got a job, traveled, got married, etc. and got away from playing. But, I did learn bass guitar...
Now, in my mid-40s, I'm serious about playing again and I'm shopping primarily for a shepherd's crook cornet (no surprise there with the SA history, eh?) to be played mainly in a church venue.
Not finding what I really wanted at a bargain price, I was going to settle on an inexpensive King 602 found locally until my lip was in shape.
I just came upon a Yamaha YCR-731 in very nice shape. I can only find a few web references, so I'm looking for more info on it, including a fair price range.
Thanks for all your help, and I look forward to being part of this community!
Dan

Welcome to TM. You will find a large community of returning players here. We all have a lot of passion and desire to progress to the point that we can be promoted from the woodshed or basement where we practice into the living room with the real adults - or at least not having the neighbors call the police. Some of us actually have aspirations of performing again in some venue or other. But whatever it is, it keeps us buying horns and mutes, and gig bags, and synthetic valve oil just so we can maintain the image that we are progressing. Who knows? Maybe we are. But whatever works for you works for us so welcome to the gang.

I noticed that no one has discussed the Yamaha 731 that you mentioned. I don't know that model but someone else recently asked the same question. You might want to do a search in this forum to find some of the comments. As I recall, that model is considered to be a pro-level but generally can be purchased for a reasonable price. Also, horn-u-copia may have some additional information on it.
