![]() | Greet'ns from Arkansas! I've been posting a few days over in another forum, so I thought I ought to go ahead and make it official, and say haddly-do here. I'm PiperJon (Pj, or Peej is fine too), and I've started a process to recondition a 1955 Olds Fullerton. I first played trumpet about (mumble mumble) years ago in 7th grade, played for a year and then went on to play low brass from that point forward. I've been an instrumentalist and vocalist since, but I've come back around to where I began this mystical journey into music. Last week, I attended a great show at a local jazz bar (yeah, right here in Arkansas, y'all!), with James Leary, bassist. He's a local guy who's played with the likes of Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, etc., and the show was simply amazing. Many of our local jazzateers joined him on stage with their respective instruments, and a fun time was had by all. And the one thing missing on that stage? Yup. Trumpet. That sparked my Jazz Bug. I've had it all along, but have let it sit quietly in the shadows. My original interest in learning the trumpet was to play Jazz, and I even was in a jazz band in high school, but was playing the tuba by then. So, that's where I am now, cleaning up my horn, and cleaning up my embrochure. I've played the didgeridoo for about (mumble mumble) years, so at least I have SOMEwhat of an embrochure. It's nice to say that it's coming back to me easier and faster than I thought. I'm actually looking forward to doing some etudes, scale studies, and lip slurs again. I've found BUCKETS of free lessons (thanks, Ken, especially you!) and I'm looking forward to sore chops, tension headaches, and frustration again, just like the good old days. This is a great community, and a great resource! Anyone who doesn't recognize the gold mine of talent, information and experience represented on this site alone hasn't taken a good look around. I'm thrilled to be here! Pj |

![]() | Re: Greet'ns from Arkansas! Welcome to TM Piperjohn! Yup - all it takes is going to one good show and you're hooked again. Have fun with the horn - with your background - I'm sure it'll come back quickly.
