Hello

Hi there.

My name is Shannon and I'm a high school junior in Pennsylvania. There's 22 trumpets at my school and as of yesterday, sit 2nd chair. I've been playing since I was 9 and plan on majoring in Music Education when I get to college.

I've played with the Jaggerz, a kind of older band that made they're hit with "The Rapper" and I have played with the Washington Symphony Orchestra. I play church masses when I am not cramming AP US History into my skull and belong to all but two of our bands at the high school: Percussion Ensemble and Flute Choir. On Sunday evenings, I play with the Music Unlimited Jazz Ensemble and do gigs with them with principle trumpeter Ron Levi of screamin.net. His son, Jason, is part of the One O'Clock Lab Band (if that helps)
In my school, I'm in the Chorus and Chamber Choir because, I guess I have a strong voice. Personally, I don't think it's all that great because my range is low for a female...but, eh, if it gets me places, I guess I'll use it.

I try to branch out all over the place so that I've got a well rounded base when I am out on my own. I've been taking lessons for a year from a man named Steve Groves who played lead trumpet for PITT and is usually the trumpet you hear in their Pep Band. But, he got a new job so...at the moment, I'm searching the area.

But, hmm... the general stuff...

Re: Hello

Greetings and Salutations from all the way on the other side in Sunny California. It would depend on which trumpet's f# you are talking about. Bb,C,D,Eb,E,F,G,A? Or any of the other keys you might be able to have specially made Personally I find a Concert A works best for Me. HAHAHA just kidding

Re: Hello

Shannon,

Wow 22 trumpets in a section... That's huge compared to what we had in our section when I was a kid in school.

I have to think; knowing boys as I am one; you probably hear, "Trumpets a little less please!" a lot from your band director eh?

Welcome glad you found us and stick around. You'll enjoy it here!

Re: Hello

Thanks everyone

To the F# quote... the other day on our Jazz Band, the Alto Saxes couldn't stay in tune on their F# and our teacher made the comment without really thinking about it. It kinda stuck.

To the gigantic-ness of our section, this is what's commonly said "Andrew (my awesome section leader and best friend), Shannon, you shouldn't be the only ones in the section playing." We've got a crap load of timid people when it comes to concert season...but in marching...heh...we own the field with the 11 trombones.

But thanks for the hospitality everyone!

~S

This link will show you the trumpet marching line (the front most guy in red is the section leader)
