| Pianissimo User | Hello Hello. I am from Singapore. I started playing the cornet when I was in Primary 2. When I was in Primary 4, I learned the trombone for some time, but the plan for me to change was later called off when we had more memebrs joining. In Primary 5, I became the Assistant Section Leader of my section. As I moved on the secondary school, I also joined band. I payed on the trumpet for a year and 8 months, before switching to the euphonium. After 8 months, I made a switch back to the trumpet 2 weeks before the Singapore Youth Festival. After that I continued to my journey on the trumpet for a year and 2 months before putting the trumpet down due to exams, and picking it up ocassionally to play a few tunes here and there. I was the Section Leader on probation, along with Student Conductor, Drills Instructor and Assistant Band Major. After the probation period, I became the Band Major and Drill Instructor, having to give up the other positions as it would be too much to handle. It has been at least 6 months since I played any instrument seriously. I most likely will make it to a Junior College, but I would not join the band as I have to get into something much more physical as I would be going for National Service in 2 years time, and I would like things there to go smoothly. I can have the choice of joining the military band of course, but it's 2 years in my life that I get to engage in combat skills and warfare, which Im sure would be a once in a lifetime experience. Besides, I would be into music the rest of my life. I would just take it as a break. I might have the option of getting an instrument, if I don't need a laptop. I was thinking between a trumpet and a euphonium, which would most likely depend on what instrument I would play, and if I make the band. After a while into thoughts, I decide on the flugelhorn. I love it's sound, and (well, to me at least), it can blend easier with most other brass instruments as compared to a trumpet. And plus, it will be more unique, well along with being awkward. I most likely will not be going into professional musicianship unless I screw up somewhere in the academic line. Though, as music has been an integral part of my life, I would love as much to continue playing music. If I do get a flugelhorn, I most likely will form a group with some amatuer musicians as well and do a few gigs here and there at most. Or I would get sheet music and play them myself. Would be practicing at most, because I don't think there are any groups out there who would take in a person who'se main instrument is likely to be a flugelhorn (there hardly are any brass bands in Singapore), moreover an amateur musician. Anyway, thats my story. Pleased to be here among a bunch of other people from around the world who make magic on the one of the very few instruments that is the most popular and widely-known among non-musicians, as well as possilbly the only thing that can make almost any genre of music. My name is Shivam, and I can be contacted at brassfanatic@hotmail.com Thank you. Last edited by FlugelNoob; 01-29-2009 at 07:54 AM. |
