![]() | Hello! Hi! I am new here and found the website stumbling around on Google looking for information. What a great site! I will be here often. My daughter and I have been reading the posts this morning and found out a lot of very useful information. It is time step up my daughter's trumpet. She is entering high school and is playing on her original student model. Her teacher suggested skipping the intermediate horn and going right to a professional horn. She played on a few of her fellow band member's trumpets and likes the Bach 37 standard weight the best. I am looking around on Ebay to find a used one. Figured that if I spent about $1200 and bought from a reputable brass insturment seller who can answer my questions, it should be okay and maybe only need minimal if any work. As is with most things, you get what you pay for. I am leary of buying from a pawn shop seller or bidding on a $600 horn. Here is the question. She is a small girl and has very small hands. Would a first valve saddle be suggested or do you think a trigger might suit her better? |

![]() | Re: Hello! Welcome to TM. Don't know where you're located in PA - but if you're at all close to NJ - take a trip up to Dillon Music in Woodbridge NJ - they have a great selection of new and used that your daughter can try - plus the staff there is great to work with. Home I strongly recommend letting your daughter try more horns before you buy - used or new. Best of luck!

![]() | Re: Hello! Welcome to TM, have her try as many horns as possible only take her teacher or someone with you to listen and help guide her. The sound from in front of the bell is different than what she may hear behind the bell. |

![]() | Re: Hello! Hi babyhead, Welcome to TM; $1200 will buy a good horn. Have your daughter's teacher or someone who plays to go with her to select the horn. Dillons is a good store. Maybe look at other makes as well. Let her play as many as she can to make a choice. The Bach 180-37 is a good choice, and serial numbers are easily available to help select the year, or identify the age. BachLoyalist.com - Serial Number Index - TRUMPET
