Hello trumpet people!

How old do you have to be to be an old guy? And do you have to be a guy?? I'm 43 and NOT a guy..

I'm new here, but not to trumpet playing. I started in 7th grade along with Oboe. I have come back around to playing in the last year after not playing for 20 years. I am currently playing in 2 community bands (concert band music), and 1 jazz group. I'm taking lessons and practicing WAY more than I did when I was in school! LOL.

It' s been a blast!

Re: Hello trumpet people!

Welcome to TM, Rhapsody!

"Old" is defined (as far as I know) here (in terms of age) as being older than Wilmer Wise; in regard to a beat-up trumpet-playing-entity, uhh, that would be me (as far as I know)!

Have fun!

Re: Hello trumpet people!

The answer to your question is you are as old as you feel.
My Great Grandmother is 104 and she wakes up happy and refreshed everyday. She walks her dog and reads the paper in the morning. Listens to the radio (which is my I-Pod lol I have to keep some golden oldies on it to keep her happy.) She knits and plays checkers with my sister. All in all she lives her life like age isn't a factor. But don't bother telling her your name, she'll forget it in 5 mins. Bless her, Dimensia is getting to her.
P.S. She used to play piano, but her joints won't let her anymore. The only time I get on my piano is when she is absent from the house. If I play and she can hear she will cry, she really misses it.

You're in luck!! Yes, you must first be a guy in order to be an old guy.
You play in two community bands and lessons!!
Sounds like you found something you like. Keep up the great work.
Rafael Mendez once said, "Once a brass player develops their "Tone" they never go to another instrument, Once a brass player always a brass player"

With that said, if you go back to oboe, we're releasing the flying monkeys.

Re: Hello trumpet people!

Welcome to trumpet master. Hope you find interesting helpful comments. As for age I am 67 and that is unavoidable since time only goes in one direction and that is forward. However I feel very healthy today as though i was much younger lol....ahhhh the contradictions of life.
