![]() | Hello from Wintery Rochester Hi, New to the site. Father of 3 trumpet players. My youngest has shown the most promise and is enjoying everything there is to know about horns. We have picked up some nice old horns and his private teacher has a nicely stocked repair shop so in addition learning music we're dabbling in repairs. Presently on the bench to be worked on are 30's getzen, 60's martin, 20's lafayette peashooter, 40s reynolds pro. He's taking pics and working on the lafayette first. hopefully we'll post the results once we're done. Looking at finish options to opinions in that regard are welcome. Thanks, Jorge Harrelson Bravura, #4 leadpipe, #1 bell. Conn 10a Vocal Wonder circa 1910 Conn 28a Connstellation Olds Menez Cousenon Lafayette Getzen ??? Reynolds R profressional Stomvi Zenith |

![]() | Re: Hello from Wintery Rochester Welcome to TM! Nice to have your own family trumpet section! Hope they all keep up with playing an instrument all their lives. BTW - can you convince Wegman's to open a few stores down here in the D/FW area - I sure do miss them! Best regards, Bob

CM is absolutely great - but if you get a chance to go to a new Wegman's - I think you'll be surprised at the improvements they've been making as they've expanded. They just opened one last Oct. near my mom's house in Oaks, Pa (outside of Valley Forge) - and its even better than the one I lived next to in Bridgewater, NJ. A friend of mine from Buffalo was so-so about Wegman's and I was trying to get her to go to the one in Bridgewater, NJ - near where we worked - she was blown away when I finally got her to go to it - couldn't believe it was the same chain. The older WEgman's stores don't compare to CM - but the new ones do for sure. We're absolutely spoiled and fortunate to have Central Market and Whole Foods and Market Street so convenient here in the D/FW area. Now if only that all translated into better trumpet playing for me..... Bob

So, Welcome to TrumpetMaster. I guess you are qualified to join. Regarding your question about finishes. My personal (and not-so-humble) opinion is that classic trumpets, like classic cars, should be restored as closely as possible to their original finish. There are plenty of current models that one can "hot rod" or "pimp out" (to continue the automotive metaphor). We would really like to see the original beauty of the instrument. So, be sure to post those photos. Thanks in advance.
