![]() | Hey, folks Just found the site and am glad to be connected to a "family" of trumpet players. I'm another come-back player. Years ago in high school I had a Yamaha 232 -- wonderful horn! Kept up with the best of them. Tearfully, I had to hock the Yamaha many years ago. Over the past 20+ years I've only played on a friend's horn. He's in the prison ministry and travels to the facility where I am a chaplain about three or four times a year. I usually end up picking up his horn and we "jam" for the inmate congregation. We've been doing that for a few years now. Finally, about a year and a half ago, I finally got a replacement horn of my own. It's a Cleveland Superior and I was surprised at how nicely sounds. It plays much better since I put some work into it. I also have a chaplain who works for me who is dynamite on the piano. So, now he and I "jam" for the inmates on a more regular basis. That's my story in a nutshell. Sorry, I didn't mean to ramble. |

![]() ![]() | Re: Hey, folks Welcome to the group. Even though you went for a time without a horn, at least you could keep your hand in making music - not like some of us who had a horn sitting patiently in a closet or attic or garage or (heaven forbid) a storage unit just waiting for us to realize that the rat race was not worth giving up such a glorious activity. It's great that you were able to find a worthy horn to resurrect your passion and it's function. Most of the horns that I have listed were "homeless puppies" that I have taken in, cleaned up, given them something to eat, and now they are eager and ready to play some more. I just hope I have the energy to keep up with them. Good luck.

![]() | Re: Hey, folks Thanks for the warm welcome! I am honored. And yes, God does move in mysterious ways. One of the things I've discovered over the past couple of years is how easily some of the old hymns can be "spiced up" and (pardon) resurrected in a jazz format. My piano-playing chaplain and I have come up with a few "favorites"... including a rendition of "Precious Lord" that captures his Gospel upbringing and the influence I picked up while attending seminary in New Orleans. And it really does something to the heart when a chapel full of inmates express their appreciation. Blessings, all. jbrian50 |
