I'm from the uk and in my 40s,so a late starter Now the embarrassing part, i will be frank seems pointless to waste ur time,so be honest i can take it!! Unfortunately though the film was an inspiration, it also put me off I.E dental issues.. As far as where i'm at Dental wise : My lower teeth are fine at the front and sides up to molars, but my top teeth are bad, very bad and theres a chance i may need top dentures in the future..Can i still play? anyhow Hi to all aj |

| Re: Hi & concerns Chet Baker had his front teeth forceably removed by drug dealers and he still managed to play some fine fine trumpet. One man does it another man/woman can do it also. Good Luck and keep the forum up to date on your progress. |

![]() | Re: Hi & concerns Splinter, Get your teeth straightened. It is more important for your overall health than playing trumpet immediately. It is never too late to get orthodontics and play trumpet at the same time. Most Orthodontist will help you with a payment plan. You may also be able to get some assistance from sources your orthodontist knows about. Good Luck. I wish you the best and hope to someday see your perfect smile on your avitar. | Forte User | Re: Hi & concerns Splinter- Welcome! Chuck Willard (aka Solar Bell...that's who Clarence is talking about...send him a pm) has been through alot of dental stuff and can be your best asset there. Also: Bud Herseth, one of the greatest orchestral players, had a horrific accident early on during his career and retired after 50 (right?) years as principal trumpet in Chicago. Rafael Mendez also suffered a terrible blow to the mouth that did serious damage to his lip and teeth. Great, great player, and he continued playing long after that incident. So, you're in some good company there. |

![]() | Re: Hi & concerns If you can keep your front teeth, great! They're the most important ones, and they don't need to be perfect. The missing ones on the side you can "fill in" with your lips and cheeks. If you're only looking at partial dentures then, there are some options beyond screwing them into your skull. You can play with them out (since you'll be learning without them anyway or hold them in by biting on a piece of cork. try to avoid any wires on the front teeth. I've found if we pursue our dream of playing the trumpet the other issues will resolve themselves. The trumpet's cool that way. Have fun and welcome to TM!
