![]() | hi everyone im new! My name is Tony Gulledge and I am just now getting back into playing more horn after a 15 year hiatus. I have two horns, one of which I know is a trumpet, an e-benge serial number 31922, which I have found out was made is 1979....right since that is when it was purchased when I was 10. The other horn is a bit more complicated to figure out. It is also an e-benge serial number 29521, I believe it to be a cornet because of its small size, 3 pit valves, and more round shape. I have been getting into playing them very frequently the past few months, and after a shaky start, my playing has improved vastly over that time. Recently was able to play Rise (Herb Alpert of course) well for the first time in years which is good cause that tune is the reason I took up the trumpet to begin with. If anyone knows anything about the 2nd horn I mentioned, I would love to hear about it, and look forward to talking to other horn blowers on the forum. T |

![]() ![]() | Re: hi everyone im new! Hello TonyG - Welcome to the club of returning players - there are a lot of us here. There are plenty of tips here to help with regaining chops but it sounds like you are doing nicely. BTW, have you been playing RISE just by ear or did you find a score for it? I have a book of Herb Alpert music but it is the Tijuana Brass numbers and since RISE was done as a solo, it is not in there. I have been looking for the music for that. As far as your second horn is concerned, it sounds like a cornet but if you will post some photos, that will greatly help identify it. The Serial number likely won't help because most manufacturers had only one series of numbers that covered both trumpets and cornets.

![]() | Re: hi everyone im new! i had the score to rise way back then, but i dont have it now. i remembered the key parts and believe it or not i watched a live performance on youtube and it helped me catch the notes i was missing. more or less its by ear :) i have gotten tons of help on identifying my horns from dean, and i have posted links to some pics in the vintage horn section. looking forward to some horn talk, and i am hoping to get back at fervently in the months ahead......i had some skills in my early 20's, and they are slowly coming back to me....particularly the higher scales :) T |

![]() | Re: hi everyone im new! 3rd wasn't that bad, but at the time I was a little disappointed. Looking back being it was a competition that had scores of acts in a variety of genres.... even getting noticed as a horn player was a good thing! I think it was "Dixieland Blues" that got their attention..... alot of pep and volume!!! T |
