![]() | Hi Folks :) Hi all, Just a quick intro and hello really. I came across this forum while looking for something else Cornet/Trumpet related. I have have always said - one day I will learn to play some jazz trumpet - just really because I have always thought it was very cool sounding stuff. Well, recently I came across a Besson Soveriegn Cornet at a car boot sale (kind of like a yard sale in america - but everything is displayed in the trunk of a car, along with hundreds of other cars - just for the americans who may not know what a car boot sale is :) ) Anyway, I digress. I bought the cornet and have been looking online for some very simple first step type things but there is very little. I know I am going to have to find a tutor of course, but I am so keen to get going ha ha. I keep taking it out of the case and making awful noises with it, or just looking at it he he. I know nothing about cornets. It seems to be in good condition, all the valves work smoothly and the slide is okay - except it doesn't retract all the way back without a slight nudge when it is a few millimetres away. I am sure it jsut need oiling a little but I dont have a clue where to start - or in fact, what the slide is actually for, other than something to do with tuning? Well, as you can see I am a total newbie so please don't get all jargonistic with me. Let me know if this is the place to ask for help and advice. Other than that hello and I am glad to be a member :) |

![]() | Re: Hi Folks :) Thanks fellas. I wish I knew somebody locally who actually plays, that way I could at least get all the technical info I need, like maintenance, oiling, cleaning, mouthpiece differences etc. Oh well, it will all be revealed in the fullness of time ha ha. Am I right in thinking though, that if I learn to play cornet I can apply the same knowledge to trumpet? I am very keen on playing the trumpet. |
