| New Friend | I guess this is probably necessary. Hey. I've been lurking here for months and finally decided to post here for whatever reason. So let's do this. My name is Julia, but Jewels works too. I play the trumpet... obviously. I've been playing since fifth grade and am now a junior in high school. Hooray. I'm in the required marching/pep band, then symphonic band, jazz band, pit orchestra[current school musical is CURTAINS!], and show band. I play for my church orchestra twice a year. In general, the trumpet likes to take over my life. I'm not that good - I mean, I'm not the best. I'm pretty good, but not the best. Yeah. Which is fine with me. 1st chair for pit orchestra and show band. 2nd chair for church orchestra. 3rd chair for pep/marching band, 4th chair for jazz and symphonic band. So, it's just all over the place I guess. No big. When the trumpet isn't trying to consume my life, I'm involved in... concert choir, being varsity choir's mascot, youth group two nights a week, Servant Leadership, two AP classes, church... it's pretty intense. So that's me. I like to play the trumpet. And I'm okay with not being the best. The end. |

| New Friend | Re: I guess this is probably necessary. Thanks guys. And I know, haha, I just wanted to point it out, especially because a crazy ton of trumpet players around my area are ridiculously competitive and being the best IS all they care about. It's pretty amusing, really. |

![]() | Re: I guess this is probably necessary. You know what, JazzyJewels? You needn't be reluctant to compete with all those guys who want to be the best. Some of them would actually admire you. Just go ahead, in your quiet manner and with a friendly smile on your face, and be the best at something! |

![]() ![]() | Re: I guess this is probably necessary. Hi Jewels - I'm not the best either. I joined a symphonic band as part of my comeback attempt. They not only put me at the very end of the trumpet section (12 trumpets in a 100 piece band) - they had me sit outside the door. They didn't just put me on 4th trumpet part, they wrote a '5th trumpet' part for me (all rests!). But, I'm having fund anyway and I still have hopes that they will let me sit inside the door before this concert season ends. I would say that I have fun practicing but with winter coming, I'm afraid that the woodshed will become quite cold. Luckily, it's heavily lined with carpet on the walls so that will help to keep the frost off of my trumpet. See? You actually are in pretty good shape. Keep it up.
