| I Left My Heart In... Hello, and greetings from that foggy city by the bay, San Francisco ~ Thought I'd give your forum a whirl...I’m primarily a cornet / flugelhorn player who likes to play arranged and improvisational solo voice music...though I do drag out my trumpet when I want that shimmering metallic sound! I do session work, as well as play for my own enjoyment. When I'm not playing horn, I enjoy writing and arranging music at the piano. Though I do follow the local underground pop scene, I favour the melody-heavy days of pre-1970 music: The Zombies, Les Baxter, The Mothers Of Invention, Buck Owens, Andrew Hill, Kenny Dorham, Archie Shepp, Edu Lobo, Trio Los Panchos, Yves Montand, Francoise Hardy...yep all the good stuff. (I shy away from Boss horn sections, R&B/funk/hiphop...and the rest of it, "screech and reach"-Las Vegas floorshow stuff, jam/groove/zone "scene" bands, and repetition.) ...Would love to stay, but I've got a date with Herbert L. Clarke (while this IS San Francisco, I'm just NOT that kinda guy) -- Technical Studies, p.35. Happy Sunday -- c-ya! -James |

| Re: I Left My Heart In... Yeah, well blame it on growing up in Santa Barbara in the '60s/'70s. Buck, being Bakersfied based, would play regularly in our area; and of course FZ...is FZ...and that is quite enough!! The Grammys have ended...and once again, trumpet legends Clifford Brown, Lee Morgan, Kenny Dorham (and many others) are posthumously ignored...so much for popularity contests. James |
