Welcome to TM, Tmoney! Do you have a private teacher at the moment? I really think that maybe if you do get a private teacher (if you haven't already) that he/she can help you a lot! Especially since next year your not going to be in a middle school band anymore, and they DO expect more! Plus it won't hurt to get an extra pair of eyes!

Re: Im obviously new here....

I just played around with different mouthpieces to find the perfect fit. My favorite was a Shilke and another one that had a real thin lip on the cup. It was around a 3c that felt the most comfortable. No mouthpiece I tried in different brands was the same in the same size.

Re: Im obviously new here....

Hello, Tmoney - Welcome to TM.
I see that you are on what we call the "mouthpiece quest". Just because your director plays on a 3C does not mean it is best for you. Did he watch you play on it and advise you about how good a fit it is? Every person is different and different mouthpieces fit differently - just like shoes. So, don't give up on the 5C (or the 7C) too soon. I made the mistake of switching just for fun and I spent a lot of time and money on mouthpieces just to find out that my original was still the best one for me. By the way, King trumpets are good ones. I have a couple and I like them a lot.

The advice to find a good instructor is valuable. That can help you a lot at this stage of your development. Good Luck.

well, today is the 2nd day for my new mouthpiece the 3c...i actually like it alot better...but that dosen't stop me from using my 5c mouthpiece for my veterans day music....the director you are talking about is the high school band director...yet, i know what you mean about the 3c mpc...i thought i sounded alot better on it than the 5c but for the assembly im going to play my 5c mpc....i haven't yet begun to rid or give up of my 7c or 5c....and agreed i really like my trumpet...even when my fellow trumpet players all had the same brand of trumpet...i just laughed....im the person who likes to be different.....and yes hoping to get a private teacher sooner or later...
