![]() | Los Angeles Based Comeback Trumpet Guy This looks like a terrific forum! I am a 55 year old that picked up my 1964 Olds Recording about a year ago after a 30+ year layoff. Its been a tough year or so, but I'm finally able to play some tunes without scaring everyone out of the house. I look forward to chatting with other horn players and getting some tips. I am thinking about a new horn and also trying to find a good teacher in my area. I travel a great deal and usually either take my Olds or my Jupiter pocket trumpet with me. If I had the Yamaha Silent Mute when I was 20 years old, I might have kept playing. (grin) I work in the movies designing visual effects so travel is a part of my life. Miles, Chet and Chris Botti are my favorites. (no particular order) Thanks to everyone in advance for this forum. Greg McMurry Pacific Palisades, CA OLDS RECORDING BACH 10 1/2 C (my original MP) and BACH 3C Gold (just got it) I also own one of the last two Flugelhorns made by Olds, custom made for Zeke Zarchy, the other one made for his buddy Irving Bush. It looks to be based on the Clark Terry design. I use a Bush custom angled MP on the Flugelhorn. |

![]() | Re: Los Angeles Based Comeback Trumpet Guy Hey LABCTG, I can relate: 11 years off, back on now with 9 months under my belt, already gigging on film soundtracks, jingle, brass quins, a big band. Lot's to do here in LA. Such a vibrant, welcoming scene. Stick with your Olds. I have a Recording I purchased and it's wonderful. Projects like a mother. We have something rather amazing in common. I have Zeke Zarchy's piccolo! Did you purchase your flugel from him directly? He's a sweet, terrific guy, going strong at 92. Teachers? Roger Wood is a Caruso man, great lead chops; not sure if my old teach, Thomas Scott is still doing that, but he still plays all the time. Best to you, Ed |
