New to Forum from TN

Hi, My name is Steve. I"m new here to the forum. I'm a instrumentalist as I may say. I can play All common brass instruments*trumpet, trombone, horn, and tuba* and most wood wind *clarinet, flute, and sax* I'm lost as to what to do with my life. I would like to have some help on ideas that I could do. One of the thing, i'm unemployed. I have thought about going and trying to give music lessons at a music center around here. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,
STeven

I´d say that you´re NOT lost! Being able to play is
something that gives us part of that meaning in
life that we all need!

I´m unemployed too, and there´s a GREAT many
of us at the moment. The idea about giving music
lessons is a great one, and dont just think about it.
Go for it!

Re: New to Forum from TN

I'm one of the lucky ones but my wife lost her job of 20 years a few months ago. She picked up her old guitar and banjo and started giving lessons. At first, she was hardly better than the students but with some practice (and the fact that she is older than them) she was able to help them and also to improve her own playing. She really enjoys it and it gives her purpose and direction.

With your base of experience and talent, you should have no problem finding a 'niche' somewhere related to music. Many students will find value in the fact that you can give them a much broader view of musical development than someone who plays only a single instrument. If you join a local band, that may provide a networking opportunity to announce your availability. Maybe some schools need help in a band program. You just need to look outside and start talking to people. You are certainly in a better place than someone who is unemployed and their only skill is repairing tube-type television sets.

Good luck.
