![]() | New guy Hello everyone, My name is Tom Starr and I'm from Friday Harbor, Wa. I started playing trumpet in Jr.High school in Fullerton, CA., in 1951. With the exception of the "lost" 60's, I've played in various bands right up to now. The Olds plant being in Fullerton in those days, we all played Olds horns, and my favorite today is my Ambassador Cornet. I also play a Bach Strad LT180S37, and a Yamaha 6330s Cornet. Friday Harbor is on San Juan Island, with pop. about 8,000. We have lots of music going on - big band, trad band, jazz combos, R&B, and community theatre productions. We have only about 6 adults who admit to being trumpet players, so we players stay pretty busy ( not rich, but busy!). My favorite album is MD's "Kind of Blue". So this TrumpetMaster forum looks like a wonderful way for me to stay abreast of the trumpet world. Cheers, Tom

![]() ![]() | Re: New guy Welcome Tom, Even though I started playing in Utah, some distance from Fullerton, I also started in the 50's on an Ambassador cornet. And, I still have it today. When I picked up my horn after a 35 year layoff, it still played as good as when it was new. I liked it so much, I bought another...and another...and another...(etc). Now, nearly 20 Olds horns later (and nearly 40 total), I still find that I don't have enough. Such is the burden of the 'N+1 virus' that is spreading here faster than H1N1. Also, I have spent time in Friday Harbor and some of the surrounding islands. That is a beautiful place and must be a great place to play the trumpet. Again, welcome and we hope to hear more from you about doings up there.
