new horn new life

hello my name is marcus I just wanted to say hi I always wanted to play the horn, but things just did not work out that way . on my own from an early age , and most of my life just trying to survive. I older now and decided to by myself a birthday present so I won a bid on ebay for a butiful silver 1924 holton revelation . it showed up a week later and it is a lot different then the beat up bundy some guy was throwing away . that I asked if I could have .then a few days later the guy I bought it from was nice enough to email me and ask if I got the horn ok . yes bla. bla . bla. thank you very much and he writes back . stay in touch, which I did and he said check out this site .so hear I am and would aperacate any help or hints concerning the learning of the horn .I can play I just want to make sure I dont start bad habits and learn how to learn . I am not a prideful person and would love to sound slow and smooth lick chet baker . thank you .

Welcome Marcus! Almost everyone here will advise you to seek out a teacher -- TM is a great tool, and we can learn tons from it, but it doesn't teach. Enjoy!

Re: new horn new life

Welcome,

Try some instruction books from Chase Sanborn. His jazz books can help you get to that Chet Baker sound.
