| New Member Greetings everyone, My name is Dennis, I am 56 and a father of four grown children. Happily married for 34 yrs. And started playing cornet in 1960. Through the years, I have gone through 4 student level horns. I finally laid my last horn down about 5 years ago, and now I am starting back. I learned to play early on by ear by playing with recordings of Big Band and Swing music. I encountered trouble in High School band as I was comfortable staying above high C all the time. I have been looking for a good cornet to start back with, but a friend loaned me his mint H.N.White "Harry James" trumpet along with 7c and 6b mouthpieces. Very surprisingly I hit the scales on the head first time after such a long layoff. Please don't get me wrong, I like the sound of a good trumpet alot, but still prefer the darker sound of a cornet. If played well, it seems to be like a slow sweet hug and a light kiss to me. Anyway, my music interests are many, and I will travel several states to hear a good trumpet or cornet performance. I have retired, and I now fill in the local school system as a substitute teacher in almost all subjects. I live near Houston, TX., but I'm originally from West KY. I have stopped by a couple of times before, but didn't have time to join until now. By the way, 3 of my 4 kids got married last year, so if you get a xmas card from me this year, it will probably be a picture od Santa looking into an empty wallet with the caption; "Ho Ho Ho, 3 kids down, and 1 to go". |
